Eleanor Mae (King) Deeley has gone to be with her Lord, February 23, 2010. Born in Revere, MA November 27, 1924, she is predeceased by her parents, Louis and Mary Etta King.
She graduated Revere High School. She worked for Bell Telephone as an operator, and during WWII, she worked for Forbes Lithograph. In 1946, she met and married Frederick (Fritz) Deeley and moved to Ithaca, NY. She raised three children and worked for many years at Ithaca College Bookstore, where she retired in 1978. She was active in PTA, serving as president in 1962-1964. She was also a life member of Veterans of War Post #961, serving twice as president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles-Auxiliary 1253. In her retirement years she worked at the voting poll registry and volunteered with many local organizations. She sang with her chorus group, Mellow Tones, in Wayland, MA and was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church of Ithaca, NY. She was a member of Catholic Daughters.
She is predeceased by her husband, Frederick (Fritz) Deeley. One of ten children, she is predeceased by her nine siblings: brothers, Alfred, Vincent, Harry, Joseph, and John King; sisters, Louis, Thelma, Helen, and Mary King. She is survived by her son, Robert (Carolyn) Deeley; daughters, Elaine (John) Sweeney Jr., Nancy (Peter) Morgan; her grandchildren, Jay (Amy) Sweeney, Michelle (Mathew) Krause, Brooke (Daniel) Roberts, April Lee (Michael Michener); her great-grandchildren, Logan, Averie, and Devyn Roberts, Jacob Sweeney. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins; sister-in-law, Dorothy King; brother-in-law, Donald Deeley; her dear friend, Helen Talutis; and all her Beechtree Care Center family and friends.
Eleanor loved to travel, dance and sing, but most of all spending time with her family. Proud of her Irish Heritage, she would never back down from speaking her mind on a wide variety of topics. An avid reader, she loved reading to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Memorial Information:
Prayer Services will be held Friday, February 26, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Bangs Funeral Home with Rev. Leo Reinhardt officiating. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beechtree Care Center "Eleanor Deeley" Memorial Fund.
