Mary A. Tvaroha Lecoq

Mary A. Tvaroha Lecoq, 100, of Ithaca, passed away  Monday January 11, 2010 at Bridges at Cornell Heights where she resided for the last four years. she enjoyed the love and companionship of all those who surrounded her. everyone will miss her pleasant demeanor and smile.

 Mary was born on April 13, 1909 in Charlevoix, Mi., daughter of the late John and Barbara Prehostra Tvaroha. Mary was a member of the Groton Community and grew up on a dairy farm on Sovocool Hill Road with her seven brothers and four sisters. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years Albert J. Lecoq (1993). Together they lived on a 2 generation farm on 200 Comfort Road in Danby, where she continued to enjoy the country and farm setting, raising her two children.

Survivors include, daughter; Yvonne ( Raymond) Van De Mark; son , Arthur (Debby) Lecoq all of Ithaca and grandchildren: Douglas Lecoq, Renee Williams, Roxanne Kern Rhonda Hisey, Marie Fields and Rod Van De Mark. She is also survived by several great grandchildren , nieces and nephews and 4 great-great grandchildren.

 Having grown up on a farm during the Depression she learned well the lessons of frugality, dedication and of surpassing expectations.. She loved taking care of young children and teaching them to find their way in a difficult world. Before marrying Albert she was a governess for the son of W.T. Thomas (Morse Aircraft)  in Ithaca. She traveled and worked with the family for over 5 years enjoying their many vacations.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be greatly missed. she was known for always helping others.


Memorial Information:

Friends may call Friday, January 15, 2010 from 2:00 To 4:00 P.M. at Bangs Funeral Home. A service to follow at 4:00 P.M. With Pastor Charles Tompkins officiating. Burial in the King Cemetery will be delayed until Spring. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be made to the Bethel Grove Bible Church 1763 Slaterville Road, Ithaca, NY
