William "Bill" Brown

William “Bill” Brown, 65, of Kirk Rd., Etna, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Cayuga Medical Center. He was born in Adolph, WV, son of the late Paul and Leva Gum Brown.

Bill retired as a quality assurance manager at Cornell University in 2005 after many years of service and had previously worked for Smith-Corona. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was an avid woodworker and golfer. Bill particularly enjoyed the time he spent with his golfing buddies, especially Dick, Pete and Matt.

 Bill is survived by his wife, Jan; his son, Mark (Debbie Alo) Brown of Freeville; his step daughters, Kristen (Duane) Baker of Candor and Kim Allen (Jennifer Chapman) of Ohio and his granddaughters, Searra and Breanna. He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn (Otis) Robinson of Ohio and Sharlon (Jack) Ferrell of West Virginia and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bill was also predeceased by his brother, Cecil Brown.

Friends may call on Monday, February 1, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors to be held in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, will be delayed until spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Dryden Ambulance, P O Box 397, Dryden, NY 13053 or to Etna Fire & Rescue, 26 Wood Rd., Etna, NY 13062.
